I am an artist and illustrator fascinated with nature.  I am always exploring wildlife wherever I am, and trying to learn as much as possible. I come from a fine art background focusing on the abstraction, but have been pursuing science and nature for just as long as I have been exploring canvas and paint. I have worked with a wide variety of clients, from children’s book authors, to researchers on the Great Barrier Reef as well as national parks.  In addition to illustration work for various clients, I also teach field sketching to the fourth graders in the Monterey Peninsula School District through the Arts Council of Monterey.  Travel has shaped my career and I have been so lucky to create art from South Carolina, to Australia.  In addition to biology and ecology, I am particularly interested in conservation, working with national parks and Land management programs to raise awareness for threatened species.  I am also intrigued by how nature is incorporated into cultural elements, manifesting most recently as an ongoing series exploring the scientific side of fictional cartoons, illustrating imagined creatures based off of their real world inspiration in the style of the famous Scientific Illustrator, Ernst Haeckel.

Part of our mission at The Reef is to uplift our community and celebrate the diversity and culture of Seaside and the Monterey Bay Area. Part of what makes our beautiful shop complete is the incredible art we are able to display on our walls. We cycle new artists’ work every couple months, each creator adding their own unique energy to the overall vibe of The Reef. On this page, you can find some of the past artists we have featured in our store, along with links to their work and contact information.

If you would like to be featured here, you can reach out to us on Instagram or email ree@montereybayreef.com along with some info about yourself, including pictures of your work or a link to your website and any social media.
